REACH

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) is the European Union (EU) Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into force in June 1st, 2007 replacing the former legislative framework for chemicals in the EU.

REACH applies to substances manufactured or imported into the EU in quantities of 1 tonne per year or more. It covers substances on their own, in a preparation or in an article manufactured, imported, placed on the market or used.

REACH Registration Schedule

Substances can be categorized into two groups under REACH: Each group has different REACH registration deadlines.

Phase-in substances: ("existing substances") i) Substances in the EU's list of available commercial substances (EINECS), ii) Substances produced before the entry into force of the REACH legislation but not put on the market, ii) Substances  previously have been marketed as (Directive 67 / EEC, Article 8 (1)) polymers but which do not meet the polymer requirements under REACH. 

REACH records of phase-in substances were completed as of 31 May 2018 in accordance with the following calendar.


Non phase-in substances: New substances or, substances not covered by the definition of  phase-in substances are need to be registered immediately before being placed in the EU market

Current situation; as of 31 May 2018, the substances to be submitted to the EU market in excess of 1 tonne per year should be registered to REACH

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the authority on this issue, continues to evaluate the files belonging to the substances registered under REACH and may request additional information and updates if necessary for the registration files

As of May 31st, 2018 deadline registrations of the substances that are exported to EU above 1 ton/year have been completed in association with European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the testing will be in progress for the products that are newly presented to EU market. The current ECHA assessments are followed closely and the registration files are kept up-to-date. Setaş declared full compliance with the REACH regulation by meeting the requirements of existing and brand new customers in related sectors.

All required analytical tests for registration are performed by in-house accredited laboratory as per ISO 17025 standard. Setaş manages its chemicals with high quality ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that could provide an accurate supply chain management.

Additionally, In accordance with REACH Regulation, Setaş is also monitoring the list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) published by the ECHA on 28 October 2008 and its annexes and updates, as well as the Council of Europe's implementations of limits on perilous substances embedded in Annex XVII of the REACH regulation. 

In paralel addition to Reach legislation, Setaş also closely monitors its obligations regarding the declarations of the substances it provides to the EU market under the legislation of The Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP)​
