Research

Setaş Technology Center invests in creative thinking, change, making a difference and the future. Its approach to research and development aims sustainable development, is simple, and solution oriented. It can successfully complete projects with the multi-discipline synergy of its various sectors and disciplines. Setaş Technology Center constantly works on new projects with its partners to make sure they are one step ahead of the rest. These projects are conducted quickly and in coordination with universities and research centers.

Setaş Technology Center  was completed more than 100 project during 2011 -2015 period. These projects will provide our customers with added value created, starting from ideas and our country together with the product will be the substitution of imported products for the sector qualifications to obtain new products and applications that will disrupt memorization

The fields of these projects in general are: Dye technologies, Coating technologies, Polymer technologies, Paper technologies and Digital printing technologies .

International Supported Projects

In a globalizing world, the need for foreign investment, international cooperation and a network has increased in the fields of science and technology. European Research Area - ERA - which has a long term, project-oriented and international research approach, has been able to bring together researchers, funds and the infrastructure in Europe since 2000. International cooperation is managed through the means of the ERA.

The coordination office in Turkey for the framework programs is TUBITAK. Setaş Colorcenter is the only dye and chemicals producer in Turkey that participates in these programs.

In this regard, here are the list of completed and ongoing projects within Setaş Technology Center. Short details about the projects are also given.

 

1. SOPHIED (Sustainable Bioprocesses for the European Color Industries)

Project name: SUSTAINABLE BIOPROCESSES FOR THE EUROPEAN COLOUR INDUSTRIES

Contract number: 505899-2

Integrated Project supported within the 6th framework. Thematic field is nano-biotechnology. Support to the development of new knowledge-based added-value products and services in traditional less RTD-intensive industries is given. (NMP-2002-3.4.3.1-4)

This project was designed to achieve 3 parallel fundamental targets

1- Treatment of waste water
2- Development of the production of existing dyes with the help of enzymes
3- Creating dyes with completely new molecules
4 years of work, where textile dyes will be produced with bioprocess has been divided into work packages: determining the needs of the industry, bio-technological processes and the transfer of the acquired technology to engineering. This way a new dimension will be added to dye processes.

Here are the advantages of this bioprocess over chemical process: Saving energy and raw materials, no need for extra reactants, high efficiency, selectiveness, no hazards to the workers, low toxicity, support for the sustainable development and a measurable progress for environment. It is conducted with 26 partners from 12 countries. http://www.sophied.net/

Coloring agents were obtained within the lab and results were published in Dyes and Pigment journal with the title "A novel azoanthraquinone dye made through innovative enzymatic process Dyes and Pigments 85 (2010) 99e108". 2 patents were taken in this respect.

Project name: Bioprocessing Suitable Colored Textile

It is a project within the framework of CIP (Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme) and EIP (Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme).

BISCOL project will focus on turning the raw materials used by the dye industry into competitive, bio, ecological, applicable and consistent products. A new, global and alternative dye process will be developed with this project. Project is carried out by 6 partners from Turkey, Italy and Belgium.

3. DURAWOOD (Development of a cost-effective, durable coating system with low fungicide content for wood surfaces using Plasma Discharge)

Project name: Development of a cost-effective, durable coating system with low fungicide content for wood surfaces using Plasma Discharge

Durawood project was accepted as a “Research for the benefit of specific groups” with FP-7 project support. Program is about small and medium sized enterprises outsourcing their research and development needs. This structure consists of two partners: The enterprises and the institution which will carry out research and development.

This projects aims to reduce VOC limits and replace solvent based coating systems that protect wood with water based ones, in respect to EC Directive 2004/42/EC. Work is being carried out to develop the technology which will boost the performance of the wooden coating. The wood pretreatment and coating method that is being developed depends on atmospheric plasma DCSBD (Diffuse Coplanar Surface Barrier Discharge) technology. This technology aims to enhance cohesion by reducing humidity on wood surface and in addition it can provide hydrophobic features. In the second phase the attempt will be to cover the surface, which is now waterproof, with a thin film layer by applying plasma DCSBD. There are 9 partners from Turkey, Spain, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Germany. http://durawood-fp7.eu/

4. BIOAG (Release control Agrotex Devices to optimised pests‟ control by reducing the environmental impact of the agricultural activitiy by using Biopesticides and safe pesticides)

It has been supported in the framework of FP7-CROSSTEXNET ERA-NET Project Transnational Call

BIOAG is an international and multi-partner project to develop absorbent systems (fiber or polymer) which can use water efficiently and control the release of pesticides to the soil (control release systems) This project will constitute a platform which is in harmony with the EU laws and protects vital resources and the environment. Especially, the problems that will arise from granulated release systems are being tackled. Producers have to determine and limit the pesticides and their applications. Slow release kynetics will be obtained with the reduction of bio-polymers, which constitute the release mechanism. In other words the reduction process will be about the mechanic and hydrodynamic features of agricultural textiles. LENZI Technologies, Setaş Colorcenter and Repol will be the participating parties in this project. Lenzi Technologies has the traditional technologies and machinery (needle punching machinery) and will provide the necessary raw materials for nonwoven textile production from Setaş Colorcenter and Repol. The thread which will be capable of humidity control and at the same time release, will be searched, modified and developed by Setaş Colorcenter and Repol.
